Human and Community Services relate to many aspects of our social environment. People working within this field provide a social safety net for those individuals, families and groups who may need help with personal and social difficulties. We provide courses to train those who are responsible, and who have the courage, empathy and ability to care for people and their needs.
In today's society the need for professional support staff is crucial, especially for the young, elderly and the disadvantaged. A great deal of personal satisfaction can be gained through working with these groups, as well as the benefit of personal growth through learning and understanding. Effective communication, listening skills and the ability to formulate an objective point of view are necessary attributes for working within the social science, education and community sectors.
We offer a range of industry recognised courses including certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas and associate degrees with possible pathway streams toward higher education. Plus you can study at a pace that suits your professional and personal lifestyle, with both full-time and part-time study options available.
There are growing opportunities for people with the relevant expertise and qualifications to find employment within children's services, home care agencies and residential care. Employment demand for suitably qualified course graduates remains strong within Victoria. Our graduates work within many areas including local, state and federal government agencies, health and aged care facilities, the education sector, community based organisations, not-for-profit sector and private enterprise.

This department offers training in the community services area, in particular, Aged Care and Disability. Dental
There is a high demand for Dental Technicians and Dental Prosthetists (Dental Technicians with clinical training) in Victoria and Australia. The Victorian Oral Health Services Labour Force Planning Report 2002 shows that even with high recruitment, by 2010 demand for services will outpace capacity to supply.
Facilities at Holmesglen are state of the art and provide the latest equipment and instrumentation for student practice. Class sizes are small with a ratio of 1/10 in practical classes, and each student has their own laboratory bench.
Holmesglen students in the Diploma of Dental Technology were the first to receive associate membership to the Australian Dental Prosthetics Association in 2008. The course provides successful graduates the opportunity to work as highly skilled health professionals.
