Certificate IV in EAL (Employment / Professional) - Health Professionals

This course is suitable for you as an overseas trained health professional who is seeking to practise your profession in Australia.

It prepares you for sitting the Occupational English Test (OET) – a requirement for any health professional who seeks to practise in Australia. This is the first part of the re-qualification process.

This course is also offered as a 10 week fast track program in the City CBD campus only, with a mix of face-to-face and online delivery available.

The course is delivered face to face for 20 weeks at the Moorabbin campus and 10 weeks "fast track" at the City campus.

The fast track includes face to face and on-line delivery


Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.


  • English language skills at a minimum of Level 2+ on the International Second Language Proficiency Rating Scale (ISLPR), and Level 3 on the National Reporting System (NRS)
  • It is preferred that applicants hold an overseas qualification that is the Australian equivalent, or
  • Be in the process of gaining recognition prior to commencing the course. They will also be required to undertake an English language proficiency test.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer

You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Graduates of the Certificate IV in EAL (Employment/Professional) may have the opportunity to undertake further study across a range of health, technical or scientific fields.

This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding to eligible students.

Fees are calculated according to the level of course being studied, and the number of hours being undertaken, up to Government established maximums. Eligible students are able to access a Government Subsidised Place and certain categories of Full Fee Paying students may be able to access an Eligibility Exemption. Assistance is available in the form of VET FEE HELP or a Holmesglen Payment Plan for students who are unable to afford fee payment up front.
