  • Full-time: Full-time: 6 months Students must attend three days per week. Some evening study may be scheduled over the duration of the course. New and existing workers, working a minimum of 15 hours per week in a children's service, may be able to undertake a traineeship in the Certificate III in Children's Services. Students attend classes on campus each fortnight during the year.

Overview

This qualification enables workers to plan experiences and provide care to children, facilitating their leisure and play and enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes.

Workers may work under direct supervision and in some settings, may also have limited supervisory responsibilities of volunteers.

Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of a range cultures and to work with local communities in the provision of services.

    Practical Placement
    2 to 3 days per week throughout the course.

Qualification & Recognition

On successful completion of this course students will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed Certificate III in Children's Services.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer

Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

Fees and Charges

Course Fees

Fees are calculated according to the level of course being studied, and the number of hours being undertaken, up to Government established maximums. Eligible students are able to access a Government Subsidised Place and certain categories of Full Fee Paying students may be able to access an Eligibility Exemption. Assistance is available in the form of VET FEE HELP or a Holmesglen Payment Plan for students who are unable to afford fee payment up front.

Assessment

Assessment is based on competency, which is the ability to demonstrate specific skills, and a combination of observation, discussion, written assignments, tests, and/or practical application and work related projects, including those undertaken through practical placement.

Career and Further Study Opportunities

Trained assistants will be able to effectively support the implementation of all aspects of daily care and development programs.  Occupational roles may include:

  • child care assistant
  • family day carer
  • nanny
  • out-of-school hours care assistant
  • recreation assistant

Graduates may apply entry into the Diploma of Children's Services (Early Childhood Education and Care) and be credited with units from the Certificate III in Childrens Services.

For graduates of the Certificate III in Children's Services who continue into the Diploma of Community Services (Early Childhood Education and Care) and successfully complete it, will be eligible to pursue higher level study opportunities at University, within related fields.
