  • Course Overview

    This course provides you with the professional skills and competencies needed for building inspection work, and for building surveying related to residential, industrial and commercial buildings. You will be provided with a diverse range of experiences in building surveying theory, regulatory laws and practice. 

    You will be required to attend site visits and study tours as part of your studies. The program is based on the national training framework and is fully portable allowing you to commence studies in one state, and completing them in another.

    This course is offered as a combination of face to face classes and workplace training via a Host Employer. 

    Furthermore, this qualification reflects the role of building surveyors or certifiers who apply knowledge of compliance requirements and construction methods and materials to the implementation of statutory building surveying requirements or to the provision of advisory building surveying services.

    The scope of work undertaken by building surveyors varies across jurisdictions and can include; providing code-consulting advice to clients on the compliance requirements for proposed building developments; processing planning and building applications; conducting mandatory construction inspections ;auditing buildings and following up on areas of non-compliance and issuing certificates of occupancy.

    Building surveyors make a significant contribution to the development and construction of the built environment, often working in collaboration with specialist consultants to assess and verify that proposed and actual building works are compliant and to ensure the safety of building occupants.

    Building surveyors work in a highly regulated environment and must carry out their role ethically and according to legislative and regulatory requirements.

  • Course Structure

    To receive this qualification you must complete 14 core units and 3 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.

    The program structure allows for the completion of: 

    • CPCSS00004 - Skill Set (represented by 7 units)
    • CPC60115 - Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying (Additional 10 units following the completion of the Skill Set)

    Assessment

    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations, oral and practical application projects.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

    Prerequisites

    • VCE or equivalent; or
    • Mature age (at least 18 years of age, and away from formal study for at least 1 year); or
    • Relevant work experience and previous study.

    Qualification & Recognition

    Upon successfully completing this program you will be eligible to receive the CPC60115 Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying which is nationally recognised and is supported by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA), Building Practitioners Board and the Housing Industry Association.

    Graduates may have the opportunity to articulate into Holmesglen's Bachelor of Building SurveyingBachelor of Construction Management and Economics or other university degree programs.

    Which fee applies to me?

    Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – concession, subsidised and full fee.

    Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study.

    How do I pay my fees?

    VET Fee HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.

    Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.

    To be eligible for a VET Fee HELP Loan you will need to meet the VET Fee HELP Student Entry Requirements.

AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

    Prerequisites

    Good passes at Year 11 level or overseas equivalent including a pass in Mathematics and preferably some relevant work experience.

    English language proficiency level of IELTS 5.5 (Academic), ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (CB) or 46 (iBT), PTE Academic Score of 42 (no communicative skill score less than 42), Cambridge English: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) of 47 or equivalent.

    Qualification & Recognition

    After completing the first year, students are eligible to receive the Diploma of Building Surveying. After completing the second year, students are eligible to receive the Advanced Diploma of Building Surveying. This Diploma is nationally recognised and is supported by the Building Practitioners Board and the Housing Industry Association.

    Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences, or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other Registered Training Organisation will be recognised by the Institute.
