  • Course Overview

    The ACMA Open Registration course involves both practical and theoretical training in the installation and maintenance of customer premises cabling systems. 

    The course is designed for those who want to enter into the telecommunications industry or trade workers and technical support persons already working in the telecommunications industry, wanting to apply for the ACMA Open Registration Licence.

  • Course Structure

    This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical learning, practical demonstration and hands-on activities on campus. 

    Topics include:

    • Cabling Practices to S009:2013
    • Australian Regulatory Environment
    • Industry Code of Practice, Licences, Regulations and Standards
    • Cabling Connections
    • Installation Practices
    • Terminations and NTDs
    • Testing
    • Completing TCA1 forms, NTD record documentation

    Refresher Course – for experienced Telecommunications Workers

    A refresher course is available for experienced technicians only. The refresher course involves online self-paced study to be completed and attending a two day practical workshop session on campus covering all practical assessment requirements.

    When applying, please inform the department of your experience to ensure your eligibility for the refresher course.


    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.     Upon successful completion of this course, you are eligible to receive a nationally endorsed statement of attainment.

    The course meets the requirement for registration as an Open Registered Telecommunications Cabler.

    Program Fees

    Full Fee$780

    Payments options are available to assist with repayment of tuition fees. HELP loans, which are a government loan scheme, are available to eligible students. A Student Services and Amenities fee is payable at the time of enrolment. All fee payments must be completed by the Administrative Date and the final date to withdraw without incurring a Loan debt must be completed by the Census Date.

    Individual subject tuition fees are available for higher education programs.

    The published fee was current at the time of publication however, due to a rise in resource and delivery costs, full fee programs may be subject to change.
