  • Course Overview

    This course is designed to assist Electrician's Licence holders ('A' Grade Licence) to apply for a Registered Electrical Contractors Licence (REC) with Energy Safe Victoria.

    The course is delivered in context with the electrical industry and covers a broad range of business management skills and knowledge that are associated with operating a contracting business. It is recommended that you contact Energy Safe Victoria to assess your suitability for a Registered Electrical Contractors (REC) Licence.

    You will be taught in our brand new facility located in Arden St, North Melbourne.

  • Course Structure

    To successfully achieve this qualification, students must complete a series of units and demonstrate competence in the skills involved.

    After those units have been completed, students will have achieved the core competencies required. Additional elective competencies must also be completed, with these to be determined in negotiation between the apprentice and their employer. Completion of the core and elective competencies will qualify students for the UEE42111 Certificate IV in Electrotechnology - Electrical Contracting (REC).

    • Occupational legislation, workplace regulations and compliance
    • Insurance requirements
    • Legal regulations and compliance standards for safety and electrical work
    • Contract law
    • Business finances and financial resources
    • Business monitoring, performance and risk assessment
    • Labour costs
    • Electrical estimating and quoting
    • Charge out rates
    • Cash flow forecasting and debt collection
    • Taxation
    • Marketing.

    Assessment

    Assessment will be undertaken using the following methods; written, online, assignment, on the job site and practical tasks in simulated work areas.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

    This course is delivered one evening per week on Wednesday evenings from 5.30 pm to 9.30 pm over 10 weeks.

    Payments options are available to assist with repayment of tuition fees. HELP loans, which are a government loan scheme, are available to eligible students. A Student Services and Amenities fee is payable at the time of enrolment. All fee payments must be completed by the Administrative Date and the final date to withdraw without incurring a Loan debt must be completed by the Census Date.

    Individual subject tuition fees are available for higher education programs.
