  • Course Overview

    This course is designed for electricians who have completed the design and install grid-connected PV systems course or have provisional Solar Accreditation and are wanting to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to install grid-connected PV systems with battery storage.

    This course provides you with the required training to apply for the Clean Energy Council Battery Storage Endorsement.

    To become endorsed to install grid-connected battery storage, accreditation must also be held for the design and install of grid-connected (GC) Photovoltaic systems. For more information about the Clean Energy Council Battery Storage Endorsement visit the CEC website.

  • Course Structure

    This course is mapped against draft units:

    • UEERE4002A* Install, Maintain and Fault Find Battery Storage Systems for Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems and,
    • UEERE5001A* Design Battery Storage Systems for Grid Connected Photovoltaic Systems

    *CEC approved training required for the Battery Storage Endorsement.

    The course blends online learning with practical face-to-face on-campus workshops.

    Participants are required to complete online study and attend a series of on-campus practical workshop sessions, and then conclude the course with further online work and assessment.Online study and on-campus sessions are delivered in parallel, by the one course instructor.

    Online Study
    The online component covers all theoretical knowledge and assessment required for design and installation of grid-connected PV systems with battery storage.

    Practical Workshop Sessions
    After completing the online coursework, participants are required to attend a three day face-to-face practical workshop. The workshop includes review of online content to ensure a thorough understanding of all design and theoretical knowledge, and covers all practical aspects of the course, including installation of grid-connected PV systems with battery storage.

    Commencing study

    The course commences on the start date listed above. You will be contacted by the Course Instructor to discuss the program and schedule. You will be provided with all course resources to commence the online work.

    Note: We are currently offering Design and Install GC Battery Storage. There is no Design Only option offered for this course.


    Assessment is by self-paced online quizzes and observation of workshop practical activities and off-the-job projects. To achieve successful completion of this course participates will need to attend to all aspects of the program. This includes all the online and practical assessments within the specified time frames.
  • Requirements


    • Unrestricted Electrician Licence
    • Successful completion of the following nationally recognised units of competency:
      • UEENEEK125A – Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus
      • UEENEEK135A – Design grid connected power supply systems
      • UEENEEK148A - Install, configure and commission grid-connected power supply systems

  • Outcomes

    Qualification & Recognition

    Unrestricted electrical license holders, who already hold accreditation in design and install of grid-connected (GC) photovoltaic systems, may apply to the Clean Energy Council (CEC) for the Battery Storage Endorsement. Check out the CEC website for further information.

    2017 Course Dates:

    This course requires you to undertake online study and attend a series of on-campus practical workshop sessions, scheduled over the duration of the course.

    • January 23 - February 24
      (Practical Workshops* scheduled: February 7, 8 and 9)
    • March 14 - April 13
      (Practical Workshops* scheduled: March 28, 29, 30)
    • May 15 - June 16
      (Practical Workshops* scheduled: May 30, 31 and June 1)
    Workshops are held at over three full days at our Moorabbin Campus, 8:30 am - 4 pm each day.

    *Attendance at workshop sessions is compulsory. You must successfully complete the online component to be eligible to attend the workshops.
