  • Course Overview

    This course involves both practical and theoretical training, in the installation and maintenance of customer optical fibre cabling systems. 

    The course is designed for trade workers and technical support persons who are already working in the telecommunications industry, who do not hold any formal qualifications, or may need to update skills to meet current Licensing and Regulatory requirements.

  • Course Structure

    This course is delivered through a combination of theoretical and practical workshop demonstration and hands on activities on campus. 

    Topics include:

    • Optical fibre cable and components
    • Light propagation
    • Fibre characteristics and performance
    • Splicing
    • Fibre installations and terminations
    • Field-testing techniques and compliance
    • Industry Code of Practice, licences, regulations and standards

    Assessment

    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.     Prerequisites

    There are no formal prerequisites for this course, however, it is recommended students have Open Cabling Registration or complete the Open Cabling Course prior to attending.

    Qualification & Recognition

    After successfully completing this course, you will be eligible to receive a nationally endorsed statement of attainment.

    Career Opportunities

    The course provides one requirement for the Registration for the installation and maintenance of optical fibre cable.

    Course Commencement

    This course is delivered over 2 full days on campus, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 am - 4.30 pm. 

    2017 public course dates:

    • 8 and 9 November.
    Course sessions can be scheduled for industry groups. Please contact Futuretech directly for details.
