  • Course Overview

    This course is a VET in Schools program and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCAL program.

    Engineers are interested in how things work and are employed to design, invent, create, maintain and improve everything from buildings to bridges and aeroplanes, to plastics and computers. 

    This course aims to provide pre-employment training and pathways in the engineering manufacturing or related industries, and entry into the wider engineering industry. It will provide you with a range of engineering skills such as computer aided design 2D and 3D, design principles, fabrication techniques and the use of hand and power of tools.

    The course is designed to give you the technical knowledge and skills to design and create 3D engineering models using cutting edge software such AutoCAD and Inventor. As a student you will also be eligible to download the software for free. 

    You will also balance out your technical skills with practical engineering skills by learning how to use relevant engineering equipment, such as a computer controlled plasma cutter.

  • Requirements

    Prerequisites

    When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled as a VCE or VCAL student.

  • Outcomes

    Qualification & Recognition

    This course is a VET in Schools program and is part of your VCE or VCAL program. You may be eligible for up to five unit credits towards your VCE.

    You may also elect to undertake a Scored Assessment, to receive a contribution to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), and to gain a study score.

    Pathways

    This course is a pathway to the Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting, which is designed to help you gain employment as a junior draftsperson. Holmesglen receive numerous inquires from employers seeking trained AutoCAD and Inventor personnel as demand exceeds supply in this field.

    The course is also a pathway to university as it gives you an introduction to engineering degree programs by giving you the technical knowledge and a range of skills for relevant engineering fields.

    Career Opportunities

    Further training opportunities exist at certificate level studies in engineering in a number of fields, including fabrication, mechanical trade, air-conditioning and refrigeration. Degree programs in engineering can also be completed.

Engineering & Fabrication Open Days

    Do you love work that is physical and technical? Consider a practical career in the fabrication trades and become an expert in welding engineering.

    At Holmesglen, we're all about hands on learning, so our fabrication workshops are equipped with industry standard machinery. Our continued investment in equipment means that you learn on the equipment you will find on the job, so when you finish your studies you are work safe and work ready.

    Visit us on Open Days at 2.30pm and talk to our teachers about a career in Engineering. You will be shown around our workshop and possibly having a try at designing something with our computer controlled plasma machine that you can take home. After the tour our teaching staff will be available to answer any further questions about the courses and the industry.

    You can also come along to find out more about our VET in Schools course, the Certificate II in Engineering Studies. Our experienced teachers will provide you with information on how we can support you to successfully complete units towards your Year 11 and Year 12 studies as well as highlight future study pathways and career opportunities.
