Program Overview
Creativity and a love of flowers are the keys to a career in floristry. Your floristry skills will be put to use to celebrate some of your customers' most important life experiences. Holmesglen's qualified and experienced floristry teachers will assist you to achieve the skills you will need to begin or advance your career in the retail or creative floristry industries.
You will learn all aspects of floristry techniques and design, including a complete range of hand held, fully wired and base medium techniques. You will also learn to advance your customer relations and retail skills through industry placement throughout the year.
Floristry at Holmesglen, has a strong design focus and in addition to floristry techniques and customer relations you will learn a variety of creative skills including drawing, visual display and event design. Student participation in floristry competitions is encouraged and you will be involved in creating Holmesglen's entry in the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.
At the completion of the course you will be a qualified florist in accordance with the National Industry Competency Standards for floristry and be ready to work in a retail or floristry related business.

Program Structure
To receive this qualification you must complete 16 core units and 5 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.
Assessment
Assessment may be a combination of observation, discussion, written assessments and/or practical application and work-related projects.Subjects

Recognition of prior learning
You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

Attendance at interview and completion of Language, Literacy and Numeracy testing.

Program Fees

These are indicative fees only. Your fees will be calculated on your individual circumstances at the time of enrolment.
Which fee applies to me?
Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – government subsidised, full fee and concession.
Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study. Concession fees are not available for qualifications at diploma level or above.
The Holmesglen Information staff can help you determine your eligibility and discuss options if you are ineligible.
How do I pay my fees?
VET Fee HELP / VET Student Loans is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.
Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.
To be eligible for a VET Fee HELP / VET Student Loans you will need to meet the VET Student Loans entry requirements.

Prerequisites
Good passes at Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent and preferably some relevant work experience. English language proficiency level of IELTS 5.5 (Academic), ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (Computer based), PTE Academic Score of 46 (no communicative skill score less than 42) or equivalent
