    This course is designed for:

    • People who are new to the horticulture industry and need to acquire practical and theoretical skills
    • People seeking employment within the horticulture industry
    • Those who are involved in entrepreneurial aspects of the horticulture industry - particularly designed for these people
    • New or intending owners of horticulture businesses who need to acquire skills in assessing technical, economic and managerial problems
    • Those currently in landscape, updating and enhancing existing skills.

  • Program Structure

    To receive this qualification you must complete 10 units. Units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If you have already completed other eligible units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.

    Assessment

    Assessment may be a combination of observation, discussion, written assessments and/or practical application and work-related projects.

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

    After successfully completing this course, you will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed AHC50416 Diploma of Horticulture.

    Pathways

    Graduates of this course can undertake further studies progressing in to the AHC50616 Diploma of Landscape Design or the AHC51016 Diploma of Sports Turf Management or Bachelor of Horticulture Science at another Institute.

    Which fee applies to me?

    Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – government subsidised, full fee and concession.

    Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study. Concession fees are not available for qualifications at diploma level or above.

    The Holmesglen Information staff can help you determine your eligibility and discuss options if you are ineligible.

    How do I pay my fees?

    VET Fee HELP / VET Student Loans is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.

    Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.

    To be eligible for a VET Fee HELP /  VET Student Loans you will need to meet the VET Student Loans entry requirements.

    Good passes at Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent; English language proficiency level of IELTS 5.5 (Academic), ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (CB) or 46 (iBT), PTE Academic Score of 42 (no communicative skill score less than 42), Cambridge English: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) of 47 or equivalent.

    Visit us on Open Day for an overview of the Horticulture industry, starting at 4.30pm. You'll get to tour the horticulture department's facilities (at the Waverley campus), talk to teachers and get the information you need to study a course in horticulture, arboriculture, landscape construction and design, parks and gardens, nursery, turf or sustainability. We'll even help you apply on the night!
