  • Course Overview

    If you love working with people, food, coffee and drinks, this hands-on course will prepare you for a career in the hospitality industry.

    With potential employment opportunities in hotels, resorts, motels, function and catering operations, pubs, clubs, cafes and coffee shops, this course will set you up for the beginning of a lifelong career.

    You will experience live learning in our training restaurants and develop your skills in a range of service styles from casual to fine dining. You will also have the opportunity to train alongside some of the best in the business through organised events such as the Melbourne International Food and Wine Festival and Celebrity Chef dinners. These events provide our students with networking opportunities to kick-start their career.

    Work experience is available with organisations like the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

  • Course Structure

    To receive this qualification you must complete 9 core units and 12 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications. If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this course.

    Assessment

    Assessment may be a combination of written and online assignments, tests, examinations and practical application projects.
    Assessment is also available in the workplace for students currently employed in industry.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen.

    Qualification & Recognition

    After successfully completing this course, you will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed SIT40416 Certificate IV in Hospitality.

    Pathways

    This course provides pathways and credit towards SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management, SIT60316 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management and the Bachelor of Hospitality Management.

    Holmesglen Hospitality also offers courses in Bakery, Commercial Cookery and Patisserie.

    Which fee applies to me?

    Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – government subsidised, full fee and concession.

    Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study. Concession fees are not available for qualifications at diploma level or above.

    The Holmesglen Information staff can help you determine your eligibility and discuss options if you are ineligible.

    How do I pay my fees?

    VET Fee HELP / VET Student Loans is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.

    Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.

    To be eligible for a VET Fee HELP /  VET Student Loans you will need to meet the VET Student Loans entry requirements.
