Holmesglen Graduates Feature In New TAFE Victoria Campaign

Holmesglen graduates are among the faces featured in a new TAFE Victoria campaign.

'TAFE will take you there' – aimed at promoting industry linked courses across the state – was officially launched this February. The initiative solidifies Victoria's 12 TAFEs and four dual-sector universities under a new united TAFE Victoria brand.

Holmesglen alumni Lauren Saylor and Chris Malcolmson were selected from past students to feature in the campaign (you can read their stories here).

Lauren, Breakfast Producer for smoothfm's More Music Breakfast Show, was able to secure work in the industry following the completion of her screen and media course at Holmesglen. She has also returned to the Institute when working as a lecturer to radio students.

"I'd always wanted to be in radio and TAFE helped me get there. You do everything - you can be on air, behind the scenes or writing scripts.  The class sizes allowed you to have a greater connection with the other students, as well as the teachers and trainers, who were working in the industry. Going to Holmesglen was great," Lauren said.

Additionally, Lauren was part of the team that won the Best Music Special (Metropolitan), for the Top 500 Smooth Favourites Countdown, at the 2016 ACRAs.

A fellow Holmesglen graduate, Chris completed his Certificate III in Plumbing with a high distinction, and is now director of his family's almost 40-year-old commercial plumbing business. He has also been able to utilise apprentices coming through Holmesglen.

The Minister for Training and Skills, Gayle Tierney, believes the new campaign will highlight the benefits of pursuing an education and career through TAFE.

"The Victorian Government is investing hundreds of millions of dollars into TAFE. That's why we're endorsing a collective brand of providers – showing the community TAFE can take you anywhere. TAFE isn't just changing the lives of everyday Victorians – it's also making sure industry has the skills it needs for the jobs of today and tomorrow," she said.

The new tafe.vic.gov.au website will feature every TAFE course offered by TAFEs and dual-sector University in Victoria.
