Holmesglen Receives Funding Boost For New Training Opportunities

Holmesglen Institute has welcomed the new Victorian Minister for Training and Skills, The Hon. Gayle Tierney MLC, at an official visit this December.

Ms Tierney was in attendance to make two significant funding announcements for the Institute.

Speaking to an audience of Holmesglen staff and board members, Ms Tierney outlined the new financial contributions, which see a $1 million general TAFE boost and $745,000 allocated from the Specialist Equipment Grant fund.

"You are at the leadership end of the TAFE sector. It is really heartening to see an institute that has a very clear commitment to its local community," Ms Tierney said during a speech.

In the presentation, the Minister for Training and Skills cited the importance of maintaining a positive and healthy TAFE sector.

"What we want, as a government, is for people to feel proud about the TAFE system. We want them to feel proud about having a local TAFE that delivers for their community and their children, not just today but also for the future," Ms Tierney affirmed.

The Minister also acknowledged and congratulated Holmesglen on recent achievements. The Institute was honoured with a Provider and Premier's award – 'Excellence in International Education – TAFE and 'International Education Provider of the Year' – at the 2016 Victorian International Education Awards. Likewise, the 'International Student of the Year – Vocational Education & Training (VET)' was awarded to Freddy Mata Mendoza.
