  • Program Overview

    Complete the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) at Holmesglen in only 1.5 years and be working in the industry sooner!

    This qualification has been designed to meet the needs of the building professional who coordinates the construction of a building, taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client. The building professional may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the state or territory.

    Throughout the course you will learn the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects. With many comprehensive building elements will be incorporated into project based learning, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical and research skills in an environment of self paced learning, which may include study tours and site visits.As opposed to the traditional two year Diploma, this course offers you a quality education in a shorter time frame which means you will be working and making money sooner.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Please see Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer for more information.

    • VCE or equivalent; or

    • Mature age (at least 18 years of age and away from formal study for at least one year).

    Following completion of this course, students are eligible to receive the award qualification Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). The Diploma is nationally recognised and is supported by the Building Practitioners Board (BPB), the Australian Institute of Builders (AIB), and the Housing Industry Association (HIA).

    Graduates may have the opportunity to articulate into one of Holmesglen's building degree programs or other university degree programs.

    October intake: 21 months to complete, 2 days per week

    3-4 years (evenings, 6pm-10pm)

    Which fee applies to me?

    Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – concession, subsidised and full fee.

    Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study.

    How do I pay my fees?

    VET Fee HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.

    Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.

  • Program Overview

    This course provides students with the professional skills and knowledge required for the management, supervision and administration of residential, industrial and commercial building projects. This national program is based on the BCG03 General Construction Training Package and is therefore fully portable, allowing students to commence studies in one state and complete them in other states. This qualification has been designed mainly to meet the needs of builders. A builder coordinates the construction of a building, taking responsibility for the overall completion of the job, including selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality, and liaising with the client. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the state or territory.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    Students may be able to reduce the length of their chosen course by measuring their skills acquired through work or life experiences, or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF Qualifications and Statements of Attainment, issued by any other Registered Training Organisation, will be recognised by the Institute.

    Prerequisites

    Good passes at Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent including a pass in Mathematics and preferably some relevant employment experience.

    English language proficiency level of IELTS 5.5 (Academic), ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (CB) or 46 (iBT), PTE Academic Score of 42 (no communicative skill score less than 42). Cambridge English: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) of 47 or equivalent.

    Graduates of the Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) may have the opportunity to articulate into a university degree program. Graduates may have the opportunity to articulate into one of Holmesglen’s building degree programs.
