  • Program Overview

    This course is suitable for you as an overseas trained health professional who is seeking to practise your profession in Australia.

    It prepares you for sitting the Occupational English Test (OET) – a requirement for any health professional who seeks to practise in Australia. This is the first part of the re-qualification process.

    This course is also offered as a 10 week fast track program in the City CBD campus only, with a mix of face-to-face and online delivery available.

  • Requirements

    Recognition of prior learning

    You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQTF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Please see Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer for more information.

    Prerequisites

    • English language skills at a minimum of Level 2+ on the International Second Language Proficiency Rating Scale (ISLPR), and Level 3 on the National Reporting System (NRS)
    • It is preferred that applicants hold an overseas qualification that is the Australian equivalent, or
    • Be in the process of gaining recognition prior to commencing the course. They will also be required to undertake an English language proficiency test.

    Upon successfully completing this program, you will be eligible to receive the nationally endorsed Certificate IV in EAL (Professional).

    Pathways

    Graduates of the Certificate IV in EAL (Employment/Professional) may have the opportunity to undertake further study across a range of health, technical or scientific fields.

    April & October start dates apply only for City campus courses.

    Attendance

    The course is delivered face to face for 20 weeks at the Moorabbin campus and 10 weeks "fast track" at the City campus.

    The fast track includes face to face and on-line delivery.

    Which fee applies to me?

    Due to the different level of government subsidy available to you, there are three possible fee levels for program fees – concession, subsidised and full fee.

    Your eligibility for concession or subsidised program fees is determined by your individual circumstances such as how old you are, what level of education you have and what type of program you want to study.

    The Holmesglen Information staff can help you determine your eligibility and discuss options if you are ineligible.

    How do I pay my fees?

    VET Fee HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible students pay all or part of their tuition fees for diploma, advanced diploma, graduate certificate and graduate diploma programs.

    Holmesglen also offers a range of scholarships each year which you may be eligible to apply for.

    Prerequisites

    English language proficiency of IELTS 5.5 (with no individual bandscore less than 5.5), ISLPR 2+, TOEFL 197 (CB) or 46 (iBT) or PTE Academic Score of 42 (no communicative skill score less than 42), Cambridge English: Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) of 47 or equivalent;

    And

    Applicants must have a background in this occupation.

    Career Opportunities

    This course prepares students to sit the Occupational English Test, which is a precursor to students entering the workplace within their chosen profession.
    Graduates of the Certificate IV in ESL (Professional) may have the opportunity to undertake further study across a range of different health, technical or scientific fields.
