Academic excellence

Student academic awards have been developed to acknowledge and promote student academic excellence in higher education courses.

All students enrolled in a higher education course are eligible.

The key objectives of the student academic awards are to:

  • acknowledge and promote student academic excellence
  • provide formal recognition of student achievements which can be included in their curriculum vitae
  • increase visibility of student excellence within the academic community thereby upgrading standards of excellence and achievement.

 

Student academic awards

INSTITUTE AWARD

Outstanding student award (higher education category)

Criteria: Nomination.  Students are interviewed by a selection panel.  Selection is based on additional factors to results.
Distributed: Awards festival dinner
Presentation: Certificate and financial award

 

FACULTY AWARDS

Dean's award for the outstanding graduate (per course)

Criteria: Top graduating academic students - diploma to post graduate
Distributed: Graduation ceremony
Presentation: Certificate

 

Dean's merit award (per year level for each course)

Criteria Top student in year level of course - diploma to post graduate
Distributed: Faculty awards event
Presentation: Certificate

 

Awards eligibility criteria

The eligibility criteria for the faculty student academic awards are below. For additional information regarding the awarding of faculty student academic awards please contact the relevant Faculty Dean.

Eligibility criteria - Dean's award for the outstanding graduate

To be eligible to receive a Dean's award for the outstanding graduate, a student must:

  • be a graduate of a Holmesglen higher education Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor or Graduate qualification;
  • have obtained a minimum overall GPA of 3.5 or an average of High Distinction, unless nominated by the Faculty Dean on the basis of exceptional circumstances;
  • not have exceeded the prescribed maximum time to complete the qualification;  and
  • be recommended for the Dean's award for the outstanding graduate from the appropriate Faculty Dean on behalf of the faculty.

Eligibility criteria - Dean's merit award

To be eligible to receive a Dean's merit award, a student must:

  • be a student of a Holmesglen higher education Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor or Graduate qualification;
  • have obtained a GPA nimimum of 3.5 or an average of High Distinction for the subjects studied that year, unless nominated by the Faculty Dean on the basis of exceptional circumstances;
  • have completed the study in one academic year;  and
  • be recommended for the Dean's merit award from the appropriate Faculty Dean on behalf of the faculty.
