Overview

Whether you're an accomplished musician or have no musical training whatsoever, you could be recording your own songs within minutes. Learn how to create and produce digital music recordings using Apple MAC computers and (free) GarageBand software. Discover how to apply basic music production principles. Use this modern music making program to realise, record and mix your own songs or music. (Includes optional free additional online content, quizzes, and resources).

Course duration: 4 weeks

Course objectives:
Students will

  • Learn about the differences between types of audio/sound
  • Gain an understanding of Garage Band and what it can do
  • Discover how to add multiple audio layers and balance/mix them together
  • Efficiently and effectively record your own songs and/or musical compositions
  • Learn how to enhance your own recordings with audio effects such as reverberation, echo etc
  • Understand the implications and responsibilities of music copyright

Course requirements:
Participants must

  • Be able to operate a MAC computer
  • Bring a portable USB drive to save your work to (at least 8 GB)
  • Bring a pair of working over ear stereo headphones or a headset (microphone optional)

Note: A mobile device, such as phone or tablet, may also be used to access most of the course material though the course is not optimised for performance on these platforms. The quality or performance of materials on these devices cannot be guaranteed.
