Disability Support Services
Don't allow yourself to be disadvantaged because of illness, injury, a medical condition or disability. Whether you need special consideration because you have to miss classes while in hospital, or you have problems reading and writing, the Disability Officer can help minimise the impacts on your life at the Institute.
Some of the services we provide include:
- Close car parking and access to lifts.
- Enrolment assistance and orientation to Institute buildings.
- Alternative methods of assessment.
- Study materials in alternative formats (eg large print)
- Specialised equipment, (eg hearing loops, ergonomic chairs)
- Auslan Interpreters, classroom support, notetakers and/or tutors
- Liaising with teachers and external agencies (e.g., TAC, RVIB)
Approximately 80 - 100 Holmesglen students are directly supported with notetakers, Auslan interpreters, tutors, and classroom participation assistants every year. Many more are provided with other less obvious forms of assistance. Services are negotiated directly with the person concerned. If you are having difficulties, or know someone else who is, don't hesitate to get in touch with the Disability Officer at Student Services.
