Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q1: How do I log in to access databases, e-books, online journals or to view full text online?

A: In order to access the electronic resources, you will need your Holmesglen e-resources login.
*This is the same as your BrightSpace username.* 
Students:
Username: Student Network ID, either ABC12345678 (returning students) or SJONES1 (new students). 
Password: date of birth, in DDMMYYYY format. EG: 10 Oct 1985 becomes 10101985.
Staff: Active Directory Username and Password.

Q2: I clicked on the Australian Standards database and have not been able to access this successfully.

A:  Please make sure you have logged in with your Holmesglen e-resources username and password (see Q1 above).
For some databases, including MIMS online and Australian Standards, Holmesglen has a limited number of user licenses. This means that only a certain number of people can log in at once. If the limit has been reached please try again later.

Q3: How do I check and renew my loans online? Can I check my holds online to see if they have come in?

A: You can renew your loans, check loan due dates, place holds and check whether your holds are available through the My LC account link.

Students
User ID: your Student ID number as it appears on your card.
PIN: date of birth, in DDMMYYYY format
Staff:  
User ID: your Banner number.
PIN: date of birth, in DDMMYYYY format.

Note: Do not use your student or staff network ID to log in to My LC Account.  Please Contact Us if you do not know your student ID number or staff Banner number.

Q4: I have a book due today and have been able to renew online before but this time it did not work. Why is this and what can I do?

A: Books may be renewed online four times, assuming there are no holds placed on the book. If you are unable to renew online, you may have reached the limit or there may be a hold on the book. In either case, you need to visit the Learning Commons and return your book. If there are no holds placed on the book you may borrow the book again.

Q5: I want to borrow an item, but it is at another campus. What do I do?

A: Log in to My LC account to place a hold on the item. Under the "Pick Up At" option, select the Learning Commons you wish the item to be sent to. The item will be sent to the appropriate Learning Commons and will be held behind the desk for one week. You will receive an email informing you that the item is available.

Q6: How do I log in to access my lecture notes on BrightSpace?

A:  Your BrightSpace username and password are the same as your Network ID and password.
