This course has been designed by experienced educators to provide you with the skills and knowledge required to become a support worker within a range of educational settings.

You will learn how to: support students with literacy and numeracy skills, cater for the different learning styles, put into practise support behaviour strategies and apply the principles of inclusion and diversity.

Completion will qualify you as an education support worker in the following educational environments: primary, secondary and tertiary schools, specialist and early childhood settings, and community education environments.

Your learning is complemented by 100 hours of industry placement in an educational workplace throughout the duration of the course.

Course structure

To receive this qualification you must complete 12 core units and five elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.

If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.

All subjects in this course feature an online component. You will be supported in developing the skills necessary to undertake online learning.


Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards

Entry requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.


Pre-enrolment interview including literacy and numeracy assessment; literacy and numeracy skills appropriate to perform the role of an education support worker; working with Children Check will be required for your industry placement; be at least 18 years of age at commencement of the course.


You may be able to shorten the length of your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Upon completing this course, you will receive the nationally endorsed HC30213 Certificate III in Education Support.


If you wish to further your studies, you may continue in the Certificate IV in Education Support, Certificate IV in Disability or the Bachelor of Education.
