Studying the Diploma of Hospitality Management at Holmesglen

The course is taught through a blend of classroom and practical training at Holmesglen's student training restaurant Zest, located at the Glen Waverley campus. Placement opportunities are also extended to students via our many industry partners and involvement in special industry events. <p>Initially, the course equips students with the skills and knowledge to work within a restaurant environment. As students’ progress further through the course they will gain a greater understanding of hospitality management, leadership, financial management and cost control. Students will also learn how to manage WH&S issues, conflict and diversity within a hospitality environment. Essential skills and knowledge are also gained in key areas of , customer service, business relationships and hospitality law. <p>On completing the course, graduates will be well-positioned to find leadership and management roles across a wide range of enterprises, including restaurants, hotels, function centres, accommodation venues, cruised liners, inventory and logistics gaming venues, clubs, pubs, cafes, aged and health care facilities. These roles are found in Australia and worldwide. <p>Holmesglen offer CV writing and interview workshops to students to assist with the transition into employment

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<p>Learners will be required to complete 3 weeks of practical placement in a restaurant/café that is approved by the HCB Teaching Staff. During this 3-week period, learners will complete 20 hours per week of services totaling 60 hours. Learners will be informed of the Practical Placement component of this course during their PTR interview.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. This will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management consists of 28 units including 11 core units and 17 elective units, delivered over 3 semesters of 16 weeks each, 4 days per week 5 hours per day on campus for face-to-face delivery. Electives have been chosen based on industry consultation and according to the packaging rules for this qualification.
