Studying the Certificate II in Sport and Recreation at Holmesglen

During this course, you'll engage in diverse sports-related units and acquire foundational skills for instructing and officiating in various games and sports. <p>Furthermore, you'll gain insight into the sporting industry and relevant workplace competencies. Topics will include preparing for sporting and recreation sessions, session conduct, first aid, and client interactions. The range of sports covered will be customized to match your interests.<p>This is a VET Delivered to Secondary Students, also known as VETdss (previously VETiS) course and can only be completed as part of your VCE or VCE VM program.<p>Learners who complete the SIS20122 Certificate II in Sport and Recreation will be eligible to receive credit towards the SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation.

Entry Requirements

When undertaking the course, you must be enrolled as a VCE or VCE (VM) student at a Victorian secondary school.<p>Students should also have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within fitness centres, sports grounds or facilities, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres, while making sure they are in compliance with all Manual Handling WHS legislation.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you may be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Classes run on Wednesday from 9.30am - 12pm<br>Please note that the timetable is subject to change.<p>You will complete an exciting range of sporting-related units and develop a basic level of skills for instructing and officiating in a variety of games and sports. <p>You will also develop knowledge of the sporting industry and relevant workplace skills. You will learn about the preparation and equipment required for sporting and recreation sessions, how to conduct these sessions, first aid and how to deal with clients.<p>There will be a wide variety of sports covered that will be tailored to your interests.<p>To receive the qualification you are required to complete the work and assessments within each unit of competency. There are 10 Units of competency, 6 core and 4 electives.
