Studying the Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation at Holmesglen

Study at Holmesglen offers a hands-on learning experience guided by friendly, supportive teachers who are dedicated to helping you succeed. In your first year, you’ll dive into various sport-related units, building foundational skills in facility maintenance, equipment management, and officiating games. You’ll gain insight into the sports industry, learning essential skills like planning, resource preparation, client engagement, and first aid. The diverse range of sports covered can be tailored to your interests, ensuring an engaging experience.<p>In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced skills, such as sports coaching, using technology in sport, group facilitation, and designing recreation programs. Along with learning how to manage risk and safety, you'll complete a scored assessment simulation that aligns with VCAA standards, preparing you for a career in sport and recreation.

Entry Requirements

Learners are required to be current school students and enrolled in the VETdss program in either year 10, 11 or 12 at one of the schools that the VET department has an agreement and contract with. <p>Learners are required to discuss their learning needs at their school and be assessed by the school coordinator for suitability to this program, prior to commencement of the course. <p>Learners should also have the physical capacity to be able to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within fitness centres, sports grounds or facilities, leisure and aquatic centres and community recreation centres, while making sure they are in compliance with all Manual Handling WHS legislation.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Outcomes

Qualification and Recognition

On successful completion of the program Learners will receive the SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation qualification. Learners who complete the SIS30122 Certificate III in Sport, Aquatics and Recreation will be eligible for up to three units of credit towards their VCE at Units 1 and 2 level and up to three units of credit towards their VCE at Units 3 and 4 level, including a Units 3 and 4 sequence. Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the Units 3 and 4 sequence must elect to undertake scored assessment for the purposes of achieving a study score. This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student's best four studies (the primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. A student who opts out of scored assessment in the VCE VET Sport, Aquatics and Recreation course will not be eligible for a contribution towards their ATAR. Students wishing to receive a study score for VCE VET Sport, Aquatics and Recreation must undertake scored assessment. This consists of three coursework tasks, worth a total of 66% of the overall study score and an end of year examination worth a total of 34% of the overall study score.
