Preparing Australia's workforce for the future of home and community care
Located at Holmesglen's Moorabbin campus, the Centre will support advanced training, applied research, industry collaboration and technology adoption across home and community care.
As care increasingly moves across homes, communities and virtual environments, the skills required by the workforce are also changing. Digital literacy, data interpretation, virtual care and technology-supported practice will become increasingly important alongside the human capabilities that underpin quality care.
The Centre will help education and workforce development respond to these changes and prepare workers for increasingly diverse care environments.
Bridging innovation and everyday care
The Centre's National Environmental Scan identified an important challenge: Australia has a strong ecosystem of research, technology and innovation, but these activities are not always well connected with workforce development, education and service delivery.
The opportunity is not simply to create more innovation. It is to create stronger pathways for promising technologies, research and new models of care to move into practical workforce capability and everyday practice.
The Centre will help bridge this gap by connecting expertise from across the sector and translating new knowledge into learning, skills and workforce solutions that can be applied in real care environments.
Connecting the home and community care ecosystem
The future of home and community care involves many different parts of the sector working together. The Centre will connect care and service providers, researchers, technology developers, education and training providers, government and policy organisations, industry and infrastructure partners, consumers and carers.
Rather than duplicating work already underway, the Centre will help connect these different areas so that research, evidence and emerging practice can inform curriculum, applied learning, professional development and workforce capability.
Our purpose
Our purpose is to connect industry, education, technology and community to accelerate innovation and build readiness for a technology-enabled future of home and community care.
This means creating stronger links between what is changing across the sector and how the workforce is educated, trained and supported. By bringing different perspectives and expertise together, the Centre can identify emerging capability needs and help turn new knowledge and approaches into practical workforce solutions.
Part of a national TAFE Centres of Excellence initiative
The Home and Community Care Centre of Excellence is a $20.67 million initiative jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments and based at Holmesglen's Moorabbin campus.
The Centre forms part of the national TAFE Centres of Excellence network, connecting Holmesglen's work in home and community care with a broader national approach to skills development and industry collaboration. This creates opportunities to share knowledge, educational approaches and workforce solutions beyond individual organisations and across Australia.
