Smart Home Living Lab takes shape at Holmesglen

The functional brief, a key milestone for the Smart Home Living Lab, has now been developed.

Its development is one deliverable as part of a nine-month applied research collaboration between Holmesglen and Building 4.0 CRC, in partnership with Monash University’s Future Building Initiative.

The project will transform an existing home (next to Holmesglen’s Moorabbin campus) into a Smart Home Living Lab, providing a space to explore, test and demonstrate how housing design, emerging technologies and new models of care can support independent living.

Early expert panel workshops with care providers, industry experts, researchers, educators and technology partners highlighted that care journeys are rarely linear. People’s support needs can increase, decrease or change over time, requiring homes and care systems that can respond flexibly as circumstances evolve.

These insights have helped shape the functional brief and will now guide the next stage of design. The appointed architect will work with Holmesglen, Monash University and other stakeholders to further develop the requirements and translate them into a practical design for the existing Moorabbin home.
