Holmesglen Bachelor of Information Systems alumnus, Alvin Adyco, is a great example of ambition, resilience and community spirit. Since moving from Indonesia to Melbourne in 2019, Alvin has consistently pushed his boundaries, embracing leadership opportunities, excelling in his studies, and carving out a career in the ever-evolving field of IT.
During his time at Holmesglen, Alvin immersed himself fully in campus life. He became actively involved in student representation, serving as Secretary of the Holmesglen Student Representative Council. In this role, he worked to ensure that the voices of students were heard, and their needs supported.
“I wanted to make a difference for other students, especially those adjusting to life in a new country,” Alvin explains.
During his time at Holmesglen, Alvin gained expertise in essential areas of IT including networking, database design, cyber security, and cloud computing and more. He developed both competence and confidence to work in the fast-evolving IT sector.
Following his graduation, Alvin stepped into the professional world with confidence. With the guidance of the Holmesglen Employment Centre, he was able to refine his CV and strengthen his applications for roles in the IT industry.
“I went to the Employment Centre, and they helped me curate the best possible CV. With their support, I secured a contract job as an IT Help Desk Officer soon after my graduation, which eventually led to my current role.”
Today, Alvin works as an e-learning developer in Holmesglen’s Office of Teaching and Learning development team. His work focuses on creating engaging multimedia programs and providing online teaching support, combining his technical expertise with creativity and innovation.
Alvin has now been recognised for his leadership and commitment to supporting others. He was recently selected as a mentor for the International Student Summit, where he served as an industry expert in IT. Drawing on his own experiences as an international student, Alvin inspired his peers by sharing practical insights into studying and working in Australia.
His message to other international students is both empowering and heartfelt.
“I would say just believe in yourself, be confident and never let any opportunity pass you by. Don’t forget to give back and pay it forward whenever you can. We all play a role in society, and we need one another in the end.”
