After upskilling at Holmesglen in 2001 to get a job in accounting, Eva Hassan made a bold career change two decades later. She returned to Holmesglen to pursue a new pathway studying the Certificate IV in Health Administration.

This nationally recognised course prepares students for roles in:

  • Medical reception
  • Hospital admin
  • Clinic coordination

Supportive teachers and supported learning environment

For Eva, her second Holmesglen course experience was just as rewarding as the first. She credits her health administration teachers for their extensive knowledge and their continued encouragement, even after she had completed her studies.

“They're excellent teachers, they have a lot of knowledge, and the classes were fantastic. The students were interesting too, which is good, very diverse.

“It was such a different stage of life. But coming back to Holmesglen felt so natural. The quality of teaching and the supportive environment were just as good as I remembered from 20 years ago,” Eva says.

Making a career change into the healthcare sector

Within two weeks of graduating, Eva got a job in health administration at a reputed healthcare company. She quickly put her training into practice on a daily basis, whether it was:

  • Understanding medical terminology
  • Navigating billing systems
  • Applying her knowledge of Medicare

She had the confidence to perform with professionalism from day one, due to the knowledge gained in her health administration course, which included:

  • Health and safety
  • Privacy and confidentiality
  • Patient record management

“What I learned at Holmesglen was exactly what I needed in the workplace. I could see the direct connection between the classroom and the real world.”

Holmesglen Education Manager, Dylan Beverley is confident in Eva’s competency as a health admin professional as well as her ability to share her knowledge as a teacher.

“Eva was a dedicated student who consistently participated in class discussions and supported her peers. When she mentioned her goal of completing the TAE to teach health admin one day, it came as no surprise!”
