Commonwealth Prac Payment

Are you a Holmesglen nursing student completing compulsory placement as part of your course? From July 2025, eligible students may access financial support to assist with completion of their placement.

The new Commonwealth Prac Payment is an Australian Government initiative that is designed to ease financial challenges for learners who are undertaking a mandatory placement in critical work areas.

Eligible Holmesglen domestic nursing learners will soon have additional financial support as they complete their training. 

The Australian Government’s 2023 Employment White Paper identified nursing as a critical workforce in the Australian economy. This new support will ensure learners can balance study, placement and successful entry into employment.

Eligible learners will receive a $338.60 per week payment, which is means-tested.

Eligible learners will have access to financial support from 1  January 2025

Who is eligible

Domestic learners who enrolled in a higher education course in nursing and midwifery, teaching, and social work. Plus, domestic nursing students undertaking a vocational education and training (VET) course.

Eligibility:

  • On Australian Government income support.
  • Need to work more than 60 hours over a four week period and earn less than $6,145.48 during normal studies.
  • Exceptional Circumstances.

How can I apply?

Diploma of Nursing

Eligible learners can apply via DEWR by following these steps:

  1. Email assist@holmesglen.edu.au to request Confirmation of Enrolment and Confirmation of Placement.
  2. Visit Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) | Your Career to apply.

Bachelor of Nursing

Eligible learners can apply via Holmesglen by following these steps:

  1. Log in to InPlace.
  2. On your Dashboard, you’ll notice a “To Do” notification about your Placement Allowance.
  3. Click the notification to open the CPP Application Form.
  4. Complete all required fields in the Application Form.
  5. Upload any requested supporting documentation.
  6. Submit your Application.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If your application is submitted and approved at least three weeks before your placement starts, you will receive your payment on the Friday before your placement begins.

Domestic Bachelor of Nursing students may be eligible for CSP.       

You will need to provide four consecutive weeks of payslips or a letter from your employer confirming your employment and income.       

If you receive an eligible Centrelink payment, you will need to provide a Centrelink Income Statement. Otherwise, you will need to provide payslips covering a four-week period or a letter from your employer.

The letter must be an official document from your employer confirming:

  • the number of hours you worked, and
  • the amount you earned before tax during a four-week period while you were actively studying.

Exceptional circumstances may include:

  • a disability that affects your capacity to meet the eligibility requirements
  • a medical condition or health-related issue
  • an acute personal or family life event

Yes. The Commonwealth Prac Payment is taxable income.
