The Autodesk Inventor – Beginners Workshop at Holmesglen introduces students to the fundamentals of computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D modelling through practical, hands-on training using Autodesk Inventor software. Designed for beginners with little or no prior experience, this workshop develops skills in sketch creation, 2D technical drawings and 3D modelling for real-world design applications. Ideal for manufacturers, fabricators, building designers and anyone interested in product design, this practical course helps build confidence and develop industry-relevant CAD and drafting skills.

Studying the Autodesk for Beginners at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you’ll learn Autodesk Inventor in a supportive online learning environment guided by experienced teachers with industry knowledge in CAD, drafting and product design. Through practical activities and real-world modelling tasks, you’ll build confidence creating 2D technical drawings and 3D models using industry-standard Autodesk Inventor software.<p>This workshop focuses on practical design applications used across engineering, manufacturing and product design industries, helping you develop job-ready CAD and drafting skills. Whether you’re exploring a new career pathway or expanding your technical design knowledge, Holmesglen provides practical training and personalised support to help you succeed.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this program, learners must be at least 17 years of age.
Prior to enrolment you will be required to complete a pre-training review and may be asked to complete a language, literacy and numeracy test. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course and identify any learning support needs.

This program is delivered over 6 weeks through a remote learning model on Thursday evenings from 5.00pm – 7.00pm, commencing Thursday 13 August.<p>This beginner program introduces students to the fundamentals of Autodesk Inventor and computer-aided design (CAD). Students will learn how to create sketches, produce 2D technical drawings and develop 3D models while building confidence using the most commonly used Autodesk Inventor tools and features.<p><strong>Program topics</strong><br><strong>Session 1 – Introduction and Core Sketching</strong><br>• Introduction to the Autodesk Inventor interface <br>• Project set-up <br>• Creating sketches and applying constraints <br>• Building first 3D parts using Extrude and Revolve tools <br><strong>Session 2 – Practical Task</strong><br>• Create a fully constrained sketch <br>• Model a basic 3D part <br>• Export IPT files and drawing PDFs <br><strong>Session 3 – Intermediate 3D Modelling</strong><br>• Feature-based modelling <br>• Fillets, chamfers and shells <br>• Hole tools, patterning and work features <br><strong>Session 4 – Practical Task</strong><br>• Use pattern features and work planes <br>• Submit IPT files with step-by-step screenshots <br><strong>Session 5 – Advanced Modelling and Multi-Body Parts</strong><br>• Create multi-body models <br>• Introduction to Loft, Sweep, Emboss, Decal and Coil tools <br>• Basic plant and advanced modelling functions <br><strong>Session 6 – Practical Task</strong><br>• Create a multi-body part with at least three solids <br>• Apply Loft or Sweep features <br>• Add Emboss and Decal functions to final models
