The Autodesk Inventor – Intermediate Workshop at Holmesglen is designed for students with existing Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD experience who want to advance their CAD, drafting and 3D modelling skills. Through practical, hands-on training, students build confidence creating advanced sketches, 2D technical drawings and 3D models using industry-standard Autodesk Inventor software and tools.<p>Ideal for manufacturers, fabricators, building designers and anyone interested in product design or improving employment opportunities, this intermediate workshop focuses on real-world engineering and design applications while developing industry-relevant CAD, drafting and modelling skills for professional drawing and design tasks.

Studying the Autodesk for Intermediate Users at Holmesglen

At Holmesglen, you’ll develop advanced Autodesk Inventor skills through interactive online learning guided by experienced teachers with industry expertise in CAD, engineering drafting and product design. Working on real-world modelling and technical drawing tasks, you’ll build confidence creating assemblies, exploded views, engineering drawings and 3D models using industry-standard Autodesk Inventor software.<p>This workshop focuses on practical design applications used across engineering, manufacturing and fabrication industries, helping you strengthen your technical drafting and modelling capabilities. Whether you’re expanding existing CAD knowledge or developing advanced design skills for career progression, Holmesglen provides industry-relevant training and personalised support to help you succeed.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this program, learners must be at least 17 years of age.
Prior to enrolment you will be required to complete a pre-training review and may be asked to complete a language, literacy and numeracy test. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course and identify any learning support needs.

Course Structure

This program is delivered over 6 weeks through a remote learning model on Thursday evenings from 5pm – 7pm, commencing Thursday 8 October.<p>This intermediate program is designed for students with existing Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD knowledge who want to further develop their CAD, drafting and 3D modelling skills through practical, hands-on learning.<br><strong>Program topics</strong><br><strong>Session 1 – Exploded Views and Basic Assemblies</strong><br>• Introduction to exploded views and assembly workflows <br>• Create simple assemblies and visual breakdowns of designs <br>• Develop skills in presenting assemblies for technical and design purposes <br><strong>Session 2 – Practical Task</strong><br>• Create an exploded assembly view <br>• Model at least two components <br>• Assemble components and present a completed exploded view <br><strong>Session 3 – Technical Drawings</strong><br>• Introduction to Autodesk Inventor’s drawing environment <br>• Create base and orthographic views <br>• Develop section and detail views <br>• Apply dimensions, annotations, hole and thread notes <br>• Customise title blocks and export drawing PDFs <br><strong>Session 4 – Final Project</strong><br>• Build a detailed parametric 3D model using advanced features <br>• Use Loft, Sweep and multi-body modelling tools <br>• Produce an exploded animation and complete drawing set <br>• Create section and detail views with dimensions and technical notes <br><strong>Session 5 – Engineering Drawing Essentials</strong><br>• Read and interpret engineering drawings <br>• Understand line types and ISO/AS1100 dimensioning standards <br>• Learn tolerances, surface finish symbols and sectioning rules <br>• Apply best-practice technical annotation methods <br><strong>Session 6 – 3D Printing Workflow and Preparation</strong><br>• Export Autodesk Inventor models for 3D printing <br>• Learn slicing processes using Cura software <br>• Explore layer height, infill, supports and print orientation <br>• Understand design-for-printability principles, including overhangs and wall thickness <br>• Prepare and slice a completed Autodesk Inventor model for printing
