A two-day game development event for students, aspiring creators, and beginners. All skill levels welcome.

Join the Holmesglen Game Jam and explore the world of interactive media and game design. Whether you are studying, exploring a new career path, or simply curious about how games are made, this event offers a fantastic opportunity to collaborate, create, and learn.

The Game Jam supports Holmesglen’s game design and development courses, including the ICT30120 Certificate III in Information Technology (Game Development), which is a Free TAFE course option.

Prizes and awards

Major awards
  • Best Holmesglen student game – $100 steam voucher awarded to the top game made by a current Holmesglen student or student team
  • Best game overall – $100 steam voucher open to all entries, judged on gameplay, design, and overall impact
Category awards – $50 Steam voucher cach
  • Best art – for outstanding visuals, character/environment design, and animation
  • Best audio – for top-notch music, sound design, and audio experience.
  • Most humorous game – for the game that makes us laugh the most
  • Most innovative game – for unique mechanics, storytelling, or experimental design
  • Best technical achievement – for impressive coding, systems, or technical polish

Winners will be announced after the conclusion of the Game Jam. 

Pick your team! Team size and theme reveal

Your team can have up to four people, but solo entries are also welcome. If you want to connect with other jammers, join our unofficial Holmesglen games discord. The theme of the Game Jam will be announced on the day, so come prepared to brainstorm and create something awesome from scratch.

Rules and guidelines

Allowed platforms

  • Windows builds (EXE)
  • Web browser games (WebGL)

Not allowed

  • Pre-made games (games must be created during the jam)
  • Asset flips or copies of other games
  • Using uncredited or unlicensed work
  • Submitting work without team or asset credits
  • NSFW content

Use of assets

  • You can use templates, fonts, sounds, models, sprites, and music from the internet if they are licensed appropriately and fully credited in your game’s description.

Use of AI

  • AI tools (like ChatGPT, Copilot, or image generators) may be used in moderation, but the core game must still be made by you

Required credits format

  • List your team and asset credits in this format:
    (Role), (Name), (Itch.io Profile Link)
  • Include asset names, sources, and licenses if using third-party content

By entering the Holmesglen Game Jam, you agree that your game may be featured in Holmesglen’s event videos, social media posts, and promotional materials. All games must also be appropriate for a general audience as projects will be showcased publicly.
