Entry Requirements

It is recommended that you are at least 18 years old and have completed Year 12.<br>A strong interest in the building and construction industry is essential.<br>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

For Full time learners, the program offers classes on campus three days per week per semester, featuring tutorials, class activities, and engaging discussions led by our experienced trainers.<p>For Part time learners, it is recommended that they attend two evenings per week per semester from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.<p>To obtain the qualification, you must successfully complete a total of 27 units, including 24 core units and 3 elective units. <p>The elective units have been carefully selected by Holmesglen based on industry feedback and staff qualifications. <p>If you have already completed eligible elective units, they can count towards your program completion. <p>Students who have finished the CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction may receive exemptions for certain units in the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction.

In this course, your skills and knowledge will be assessed in different ways. The assessment tasks are designed to allow the learners to demonstrate that they have achieve competency and that they can perform to the industry standards.<br>The assessments might include:<br>• Giving presentations<br>• Being observed by the trainer while you are performing a task.<br>• Taking tests and exams<br>• Writing reports<br>• Creating photo portfolios of your work<br>• Answering questions, both in writing and out loud<p>The range of assessment types gives a realistic overview of the skills and knowledge that the learner has gained and that they can be implemented in building and construction industry.

Additional Course Cost

Activity Fee: $150 <br> <br>Expenses that may occur: <br> <br>When onsite excursions are scheduled, students will need to provide the following personal protective equipment: <br>- Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>- Safety pants <br>- Work shirt (waist-length jacket, if cold) <br>- Safety glasses <br>- Hat for sun protection <br>- Sunscreen (if exposed to sunlight) <br>- Safety gloves (if handling building materials) <br> <br>The estimated total cost of these items ranges between $200 and $250. <br> <br>It is recommended that students obtain a construction induction card (White Card) before starting the course. This requires completing a one-day course at Holmesglen or another accredited training provider, with costs ranging between $150 and $200. <br> <br>Detailed lists of consumables and equipment will be provided upon enrolment. Students have access to computers in tutorial classrooms. <br>- USB-connected headset (if using class computers while the teacher is remote): $55 <br> <br>Recommended additional items: <br>- Recommended book - "Building Your Own Home" by George Wilkie: $40 <br>- A suitable home computer capable of running Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required for homework. Office365 is available for free, and Microsoft Project will be available on the classroom computers. <br> <br>Total equals $695
