Studying the Certificate III in Civil Construction (General) at Holmesglen

Studying at Holmesglen combines practical training, industry knowledge and strong support from experienced teachers. Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll build skills through a mix of on-campus training and real workplace experience on civil construction projects. Classes are delivered in small groups, allowing trainers to provide personalised guidance while you develop confidence using industry plant, tools and equipment. Training includes simulations in our Immersive Learning Lab, followed by hands-on practice with machinery such as excavators and skid steers.<p>Holmesglen works closely with employers to ensure training reflects current civil construction practices, helping you apply what you learn directly on the worksite. With supportive trainers, modern facilities and industry-aligned training, you’ll graduate with the practical skills and confidence needed to succeed in the civil construction industry.

Entry Requirements

• Employed in the civil construction industry or related business.<br>• Hold Worksafe Victoria construction industry white card. Holmesglen will provide the industry card training at additional cost if required. <br>• An apprenticeship [EPSILON] training contract is in place and signed by RTO / Apprentice / Employer.<br>• Minimum age requirement 17 years
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. To receive this qualification, you must complete 25 units in total, comprising:<br>• 8 core units<br>• 17 elective units<p><strong>Course Duration</strong><br>The course is delivered over four years in accordance with an apprenticeship contract. Most training occurs during the first three years and includes:<br>• On-campus practical and theoretical training and assessment<br>• Logged worksite hours, including operating mobile plant<br>• Trainer-directed independent learning<p><strong>Training Schedule</strong><br>During the apprenticeship, you will attend face-to-face training between 1 and 5 days per month, depending on the units being delivered.<p><strong>Credit Transfer</strong><br>If you already hold Statements of Attainment for any units in this qualification, you may apply for credit transfer towards completion of the course.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

How to apply

Apprenticeship
