Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<br>As this is an apprenticeship, you must have a training agreement with a registered employer from a relevant industry.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and to attend a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. <strong>Course duration and delivery</strong><br>The MSF30822 Certificate III in Flooring Technology (Carpet) is delivered over three years within a four-year apprenticeship contract period. Training is structured as 21 hours per week, delivered across 26 block training sessions over the three-year program.<p><strong>Year One</strong><br>Year One focuses on foundational core units, including workplace safety requirements, effective communication and working collaboratively as part of a team. Learners then progress to hands-on activities such as assessing existing flooring conditions, safely removing old materials and preparing surfaces for new carpet installations.<p><strong>Year Two</strong><br>In Year Two, learners build on their knowledge with a focus on measuring, costing and job planning. Practical training includes installing hard and soft carpet underlays, as well as unpatterned tufted carpets in residential and commercial settings.<p><strong>Year Three</strong><br>Year Three develops advanced skills in laying carpet for more complex flooring installations, including stairs and carpet tiles. Learners gain specialised skills to prepare, cut, lay out and fasten carpet floor coverings, and to identify and resolve common installation challenges.

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Apprentices will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities. The personal protective equipment and course materials students will be required to supply are: <br>Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>Work pants and shirt <br>Ear protection <br>Safety glasses <br>Safety gloves (when handling building materials) <br>Dust respirator to P2/P3 standard <br>Fold-out ruler Notebook, HB Pencil, blue or black pen, eraser <br>BYO Device-Laptop $400 <br>The total cost of these items is between $650 - $750 <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.
