Studying the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating at Holmesglen provides you with comprehensive training in both the practical and theoretical aspects of the trade. Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<p>Holmesglen requires all learners to be engaged in a painting and decorating apprenticeship. You must be signed up as an apprentice with your chosen employer and have an Epsilon number stating Holmesglen is your selected training provider.b
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The program is conducted over three years within a four-year apprenticeship contract period.<br>It is structured with 21 hours of training per week, spread across 11 block training sessions per year.<p><strong>• Year One: </strong>Focuses on foundational skills, including safety requirements, and proper use of tools and equipment. Training includes practical activities in a controlled workplace setting to develop essential skills.<p><strong>• Year Two:</strong> Builds on the first year’s knowledge, focusing on advanced safety protocols such as asbestos encapsulation and working with lead-painted surfaces. Learners develop advanced paint application skills, including spray techniques and colour matching.<p><strong>• Year Three: </strong>Emphasises mastering decorative paint finishes, graffiti removal, and applying anti-graffiti coatings. Training also includes developing essential business skills, such as costing and estimating for painting projects.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

How to apply

Apprenticeship

Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities and attending site visits.
