Holmesglen’s WorkSafe-approved HSR Initial OHS Training Course supports Health and Safety Representatives to confidently perform their role under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004. The course focuses on practical, workplace-ready skills, including hazard identification, consultation, and promoting safe work practices. It is ideal for newly elected HSRs and valuable for managers, supervisors, and health and safety committee members. Training is delivered on campus, with group bookings of 10 or more available at your workplace or at one of our other campuses.

Studying the WorkSafe-approved HSR Initial OHS Training Course at Holmesglen gives learners a practical and supportive environment to build confidence in workplace safety. Delivered by experienced trainers, the course blends face-to-face theory with hands-on activities that reflect real workplace situations. Learners gain a strong understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and develop practical skills in hazard identification, consultation, risk management and issuing PINs. Training is offered on campus, with the flexibility for group bookings of 10 or more to be delivered at your workplace or another Holmesglen campus. With clear guidance, structured learning and industry-aligned content, Holmesglen helps HSRs and safety teams strengthen their capability to support safer workplaces.

Entry Requirements

• Students must be at least 16 years of age.<br>• The course must be completed within six months of commencement.<br>• Learners must attend the full course.<br>• A valid photo ID (Driver's Licence, Learner Permit, Student ID card or Passport) must be presented at enrolment.<br>• Enrolment closes three business days prior to course commencement. Payment must be finalised before this date; otherwise, you will not be able to attend the course on your selected day.

Course Structure

Timetable

The course is delivered through a blend of face-to-face theory and practical training activities.<p>The initial program runs over five consecutive days (Monday to Friday) or one day per week across five weeks.<p><strong>What you will learn</strong><br>You will develop the skills and knowledge to:<br>• Interpret the OHS legislative framework and understand its relevance to the HSR role<br>• Identify key workplace parties and their legislative duties and obligations<br>• Participate in consultation and effective issue resolution<br>• Establish and support representation in the workplace<br>• Represent designated work group members in OHS risk management processes<br>• Issue a Provisional Improvement Notice (PIN) and direct the cessation of unsafe work

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
