Programming is one of the most AI-accelerated fields you can enter right now. The developers building the fastest, shipping the most, and landing the best roles are not the ones avoiding AI tools. They are the ones who understand the code well enough to use them properly. This course gives you that foundation across the full programming stack: JavaScript for the web, C# for applications and data systems, and SQL for databases.
You will work with experienced teachers, with every session recorded on Brightspace so you can attend in person, join live via WebEx, or catch up later. Hackathon events and TechTalk sessions with industry professionals run throughout the year.
What You'll Study
• HTML & CSS - Build accessible, W3C-compliant websites using HTML5 and CSS3 in Visual Studio Code. Learn the structural foundation that underpins everything built on the web.
• JavaScript - Build interactive web applications, connect to APIs and manage source code with GitHub. Learn to use AI coding tools effectively and understand the JavaScript underneath well enough to catch what they get wrong. This is the highest-hours subject in the program.
• Data Driven Programming - Learn object-oriented programming in C#, relational databases with SQL and systematic software testing. Build and test a complete data-driven application from scratch with a C# front end, SQL back end and Data Access Layer. Software testing is one of the skills most often missing from AI-generated code. This subject teaches you to verify what you, or an AI tool, have built.
• Emerging ICT Technologies - Evaluate and apply emerging technologies including Figma, AI-assisted design tools and modern development practices against real organisational requirements. Build the critical thinking skills to decide which new tools are worth adopting and how.
• Working in ICT - Develop your understanding of intellectual property, privacy, ethics, cyber security risk and professional practice in digital team environments.
• Front End Design & Development - Learn responsive layouts, SEO implementation and web hosting selection. Finish the course with a deployable live website that showcases the front-end layer of every application you build.
• Open Lab - Attend optional teacher-supported sessions where you can bring your own projects, experiment with AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Cursor, and receive direct teacher feedback on what you are building outside of assessed work.
