The SIT20322 Certificate II in Hospitality – VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) gives secondary school students practical experience in the hospitality industry while completing VET studies as part of their secondary education.<p><p>You'll develop hands-on skills in food and beverage service, customer service and day-to-day hospitality operations, while learning how to work safely and effectively in professional hospitality environments.</p><p><p>Through practical hospitality training, you'll build skills relevant to workplaces such as restaurants, cafés, hotels, pubs and catering operations, preparing you for entry-level hospitality opportunities and further study in hospitality, cookery or related areas.</p>

Studying the Certificate II in Hospitality at Holmesglen

Study through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on hospitality training in Holmesglen's kitchens and student training restaurants, <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/our-institute/our-facilities/restaurants-and-retail/zest-restaurant">Zest at the Glen Waverley campus</a> and <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/our-institute/our-facilities/restaurants-and-retail/cilantro-restaurant">Cilantro at the Moorabbin campus</a>. These training restaurants provide opportunities to develop practical skills in environments that reflect real hospitality workplaces.<p>You'll gain hands-on experience across customer service, coffee making, food and beverage service, basic kitchen skills and cookery methods, while developing an understanding of food safety and safe work practices.<p>In your second year, you can choose to focus on hospitality or cookery, depending on your preferred pathway. After completing your secondary school studies, you may be eligible to receive credit towards relevant hospitality or cookery qualifications.

Entry Requirements

Students for this program must be attending a secondary school and be part of the VETDSS program. The student’s school nominates the students for the program.
As a VETDSS student, you are not required to undertake an LLN assessment at Holmesglen, as your suitability for the program is assessed through your secondary school.<p><strong>Reading and writing</strong><p>You need to be able to read and interpret familiar texts, instructions, signs and workplace documents, and complete basic written records, reports, checklists and instructions.<p><strong>Oral communication</strong><p>You need to be able to follow instructions, communicate routine information, participate in workplace discussions and ask questions to clarify information.<p><strong>Numeracy</strong><p>You need to be able to perform basic calculations, use common measurements, and work with whole numbers, money, fractions, decimals and percentages using appropriate tools such as a calculator.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. <strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To achieve this qualification, learners complete 12 units in Year 1, comprising 6 core units and 6 elective units.<p>In Year 2, learners complete an additional five units as part of a scored VCAA assessment, enabling them to work towards an ATAR. On successful completion of these additional units, learners are also awarded the Certificate II in Hospitality (Enhanced).<p><strong>Elective selection</strong><br>Elective units are selected based on intended job outcomes, local industry requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.
