Overview

The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) equips you for a job in aged care. Combining theory and practice, this aged care course will teach you how to provide physical, social and emotional support to older people. You will also learn how to work as part of a team with other professionals such as nurses and healthcare workers.

Studying the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) at Holmesglen

During the course, you will gain comprehensive knowledge and skills for providing physical, social, and emotional support to the elderly. Additionally, you will develop the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, including with other professionals like nurses and healthcare workers. <p>The course prioritises COVID-safe infection control training, ensuring your understanding of necessary precautions. Access to all learning and support materials will be provided through our user-friendly online learning management system. To further enhance your practical skills, you will have the opportunity to complete a four-week work placement with one of our esteemed industry partners.<p>With an ageing population, there is high demand for qualified aged care workers. Many of our students are offered work on completion of their placement.

Entry Requirements

Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.<p>Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to provide:<br>- evidence that you are 18 years old or over<br>- a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>- a record of your immunisation history<br>- evidence of at least 3 COVID-19 vaccinations<br>- evidence of your flu vaccination<br>- a clear NDIS Worker Screening Check<br>- a WWC Check Card (Employee)

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Read more about Recognition of Prior Learning, Credits and Advanced Standing.

Course Structure

Timetable

Holmesglen offers effective study options (fully on-campus training with access to online learning resources). You will need to attend classes 3 days per week for 19 weeks from 9.30am – 4.00pm. You will also need to complete some online learning tasks.<p>Your timetable options are:<br>Chadstone campus (face-to-face, on-campus delivery)<br>Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday groups<p>To receive this qualification you must complete 9 core units and 6 elective units. Holmesglen has chosen elective units based on industry feedback around the skills required for the job. If you have already completed other eligible units, they may be counted towards this program.<p>Practical placement is split into two, two-week blocks and your attendance is required from 7am to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Holmesglen will find your placement for you and you will be supported by a Holmesglen trainer during your placement.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
