Course Overview

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) develops the practical skills and knowledge needed to provide person-centred support to older people and people with disability in residential, community and home-based care settings.<p><p>You'll develop skills in supporting individual needs, independence, wellbeing and daily living, while learning to provide safe and respectful care. The course also develops your understanding of working as part of a care team alongside nurses, healthcare workers, case managers and NDIS service providers.</p><p><p>Through practical learning and four weeks of industry placement, you'll apply your skills in real care environments and gain experience supporting clients. The qualification prepares you for roles in aged care, disability support, community care and home-based support services.</p>

Studying the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at Holmesglen

Study the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at Holmesglen's <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/campuses/chadstone">Chadstone campus</a>, where you'll combine face-to-face learning, practical activities and online learning resources to prepare for work in aged care and disability support.<p>You'll practise providing person-centred support, assisting with daily care, communicating with clients and working as part of a care team through practical activities and assessments. You'll be supported by experienced Holmesglen teachers who provide guidance and feedback as you develop your confidence working with older people and people with disability.<p>A key part of your learning is four weeks of industry placement, divided between ageing and disability settings. Holmesglen arranges your placement and provides support from a trainer, giving you the opportunity to apply what you've learnt while experiencing the day-to-day responsibilities of an individual support worker in real care environments.

Entry Requirements

Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to provide:<br>• evidence that you are 18 years old or over<br>• a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>• evidence of at least 3 COVID-19 vaccinations<br>• evidence of your flu vaccination<br>• a clear National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Screening Check<br>• a Working with Children (WWC) Check Card (Employee)<br>• Vaccinations: Although no longer mandated, most Sector organisations and host facilities still request students be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 (3 doses) and influenza (flu). <br>• Placement: If you cannot provide evidence that you are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 and up-to-date with your flu vaccination, you will have less Placement options and as a result, may be required to travel further to attend placement.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) is delivered over 19 weeks, comprising:<br>• 15 weeks of on-campus training, three days per week from 9.30am to 4.00pm <br>• Four weeks of industry placement <br>• Online learning activities and resources to support your on-campus study <br>At the Chadstone campus, you can choose from the following class groups:<br>• Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday <br>• Wednesday, Thursday and Friday <br><strong>Units of competency</strong><br>To achieve this qualification, you must successfully complete 15 units of competency: 9 core units and 6 elective units.<br>The elective units support the Ageing and Disability specialisations and have been selected based on industry feedback about the skills required for these areas of work. Eligible units you have previously completed may count towards the qualification.<br><strong>Practical placement</strong><br>You'll complete four weeks of industry placement at the end of the course, divided into two two-week blocks:<br>• Ageing placement: Monday to Friday, 6.50am to 3.00pm <br>• Disability placement: Morning or afternoon shifts, arranged with you and the host organisation <br>Holmesglen will arrange your placement, and you'll be supported by a Holmesglen trainer during your placement.
