The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support builds on your existing disability support skills and develops the knowledge needed to provide person-centred support to people with disability. Designed for graduates of the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or (Ageing and Disability), the course prepares you to take on greater responsibility in disability and community support settings.You'll develop skills in empowerment, advocacy, person-centred planning and social inclusion, while learning how to support people with disability to exercise choice, control and independence. You'll also strengthen your ability to work collaboratively with clients, families, carers and other professionals to provide individualised support.The qualification supports progression into more advanced roles across the disability and community services sector, building on the skills and experience gained through your previous individual support studies.

Study the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support at Holmesglen, where learning combines face-to-face classes, practical activities and online learning to help you apply disability support principles to realistic workplace situations.You'll learn from experienced Holmesglen trainers with connections to the disability sector, exploring contemporary approaches to disability support, including the human rights approach and social model of disability. Through case studies, discussions and practical activities, you'll consider how these approaches influence professional practice and the way support is provided.Your classroom learning is supported by online resources, discussion activities and quizzes, giving you opportunities to reinforce your knowledge and engage with course content throughout your studies.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support, you must: • Be at least 18 years of age when you apply for the course. • Have successfully completed the CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability). • Complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and Pre-Training Review (PTR) before enrolment or commencement of training. These help determine your suitability for the course, confirm your training plan and identify any learning support needs. Language, literacy and numeracy evidence Your literacy and numeracy requirements may also be demonstrated through eligible previous study or assessment evidence, including: • Completion of Year 12 • Completion of a Certificate III or higher VET qualification • Successful completion of at least one unit of a recognised higher education qualification • Relevant GAT results • An eligible BKSB assessment If additional learning support is identified, you may be referred to Holmesglen's <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/current-students/course-resources/learning-skills-centre">Learning Skills Centre</a>.Practical placement requirements Before commencing practical placement, you must hold: • A satisfactory National Police Check • A satisfactory NDIS Worker Screening Check • A current Working with Children Check (Employee) Some placement providers may also have vaccination requirements, including COVID-19 and influenza vaccination. These requirements vary between organisations and may affect the placement options available to you.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Holmesglen offers this course as fully on-campus training with access to online learning resources. You will need to attend classes 2 days per week for 19 weeks from 9.30am – 4.00pm. You will also need to complete some online learning tasks.Your classes will be delivered: - Chadstone campus (face-to-face, on-campus delivery) - Every Tuesday and Friday during State school termsTo receive this qualification you must complete 7 core units and 3 elective units. Holmesglen has chosen elective units based on industry feedback around the skills required for the job.
