Course Overview
The Bachelor of Sport Business at Holmesglen develops the business and management skills needed for careers across the sport industry. You'll build practical knowledge across sport management, sport marketing, commercial sport, sports media, sport development and events, while developing an understanding of how sporting organisations operate and engage with their audiences.<p>Delivered in partnership with the <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/about-us/our-institute/partners-and-projects/local-industry-partners/saints-sports-program">St Kilda Football Club</a>, the degree combines academic study with <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZfXKYyCSNU">real-world industry experience</a> through guest speakers, field trips and a 228-hour internship. You'll also complete a 228-hour industry internship, gaining experience in a professional sport environment and opportunities to build industry connections.<p>You'll have access to video cameras, podcasting equipment and television studio facilities, supporting practical learning across sport media, digital content and communications. Entry Requirements
To be eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Sport Business, international applicants must meet the following requirements:<p><strong>Age Requirement</strong><p>• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of the course.<p><strong>English Language Proficiency Requirements</strong><p>To meet the English language proficiency requirements of this course, you will need to demonstrate the following:<p>• IELTS overall score of 6.0 (Academic) or <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/study-with-us/international-student-study/how-to-apply-international-students/English-requirements-for-international-students">equivalent English language Tests</a><p><strong>Academic Requirements</strong><p>• Successful completion of VCE Year 12, or overseas equivalent. Applicants can access information on whether their overseas qualification is equivalent to the VCE Year 12 at <a href="https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/assessment/results/applying-credit-and-recognition/equivalent-qualifications/assessment-overseas-qualification-vce-equivalence-year-12">Assessment of overseas qualification for VCE equivalence - Year 12 - Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority</a>.<p>Applicants may also be considered on the basis of:<p>• Completion of an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline; or<p>• Partial or completed higher education study at a recognised university or non university higher education provider.<p>All applications are assessed on an individual basis in accordance with Holmesglen’s admissions policies.<p>Applicants who have completed Dual Diploma of SIS50321 Diploma of Sports and SIT50322 Diploma of Event Management at Holmesglen may be eligible to receive credit towards the first year of the Bachelor of Sport Business, subject to the Holmesglen’s credit and recognition of prior learning policies.<p><strong>Important Dates for Your Studies</strong><br>Stay informed about important academic dates throughout your course, including teaching periods, holidays and key deadlines. 1st Years - FT: 3 days per week, Monday 9am-4pm, Tuesday 9am-12pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm.<br>2nd Years - FT: 3 days per week, Wednesday 2pm-5pm, Thursday 9am-4pm, Friday 9am-12pm.<br>3rd Years - FT: 2 days per week, Tuesday 1.30pm-9pm, Thursday 1pm-4pm.</strong><p><strong>Mode of study:</strong> Full-time, on-campus face-to-face delivery.<p>All new students commencing in a higher education course must attend their faculty course orientation and Holmesglen's higher education orientation.<p><strong>Major studies</strong><br>Sport management, athlete management, social media, sport business, sport development and coaching, sport event tourism, sport media, sport sponsorship, sport venue and event management, sports governance, sports marketing.<p><strong>Work placements/internships</strong><br>In the third year of the degree students are required to undertake a 228 hour (six-week full-time equivalent) internship which provides experience to assist with a seamless transition into the workforce upon fulfilling the course requirements. We have some of Australia’s leading sports organisations as internship hosts including Melbourne Stars, AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria and Basketball Victoria.<p>This course is comprised of 23 subjects: 20 core subjects and 3 elective subjects.<p>To receive this qualification, you must complete 23 units in total, comprising of 20 core units and 3 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.
Assessment
Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
