Overview

The Diploma of Sport is delivered with the Diploma of Event Management (CRICOS 112242F) as a concurrent qualification. These qualifications are delivered in conjunction with the St Kilda Football Club to prepare you for a career in the sports industry. You will learn how to plan and implement high-performance training, coaching and recovery programs, and how to support athletes to adopt the principles of sports psychology.

Studying the Diploma of Sport at Holmesglen

Practical placement is a key component of this qualification. This is a structured program designed to give all students ‘hands-on’ experience prior to entering the industry. Practical placement is designed to bridge the gap between study and employment. <p>This program has compulsory activities/materials as part of the learning experience. The department will confirm the cost of these activities/materials prior to enrolment. You will be required to provide a Working with Children Check.

Entry Requirements

Good passes at the Year 11 level or the overseas equivalent plus relevant work experience. English language proficiency is equivalent to IELTS 6.0 with no individual band score less than 6.0. International learners must be at least 18 years old at the time of course commencement. Holmesglen requires the learner to be able to commit to 150 hours of practical placement hours for the course (usually done 1 (one) day a week, 5h/day over 30 weeks). Students should also have the physical capacity to successfully work within the field where they may be required to conduct their work typically within a variety of Australian sport industries, while ensuring they follow all Manual Handling WHS legislation.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Students engage with Holmesglen four days per week, for six hours per day with the classes being both practical and theoretical in nature. The classes are combined face to face on campus and virtual off campus 'clustered' classes.<p>To receive the SIS50321 Diploma of Sport qualification, you must complete 14 units, which comprise of 3 core units and 11 elective units.(The SIT50322 Diploma of Event Management qualification has an additional 20 units). <p>Elective units have been chosen to support the vocational outcome of the students to become High-Performance Sports coach, Sport Development manager, Sport program or Sport Projects manager within a variety of Australian sport industries. These units are chosen for the students to provide a range of Sport, Coaching, Management or Admin services within the industry upon graduation of this qualification. Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Learners will be required to wear appropriate clothing and footwear and provide required documentation when undertaking practical activities. Students are required to supply: <br> <br>* Closed toe, non slip sports shoes <br>* Appropriate sports attire ( t-shirts, shorts, track pants, wet weather clothing) <br>* National Police Records Check (only if required by a host organisation) <br> <br>The approximate cost $300 <br> <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.

An additional administration fee may apply where the application is submitted directly to Holmesglen and not through a Holmesglen-approved education agent.
