Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years old. This course is recommended for learners seeking registration in the relevant categories of a domestic builder limited license. It is advisable for learners to have completed at least Year 11 and have a strong desire to work in the building and construction industry.<p>Prospective students should also understand that successful completion of this course may lead to employment opportunities that require outdoor work, work at heights, or underground work and may involve physical labour.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. To receive this qualification, you must complete 19 units in total, comprising of 11 core units and 8 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.<p>If the learner has already completed other eligible elective units, these will be counted towards completion of this program.

Activity Fee: $150 <br> <br>Expenses that may occur: <br> <br>When onsite excursions are scheduled, students will need to provide the following personal protective equipment: <br>- Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>- Safety pants <br>- Work shirt (waist-length jacket, if cold) <br>- Safety glasses <br>- Hat for sun protection <br>- Sunscreen (if exposed to sunlight) <br>- Safety gloves (if handling building materials) <br> <br>The estimated total cost of these items is between $200 and $250. <br> <br>Students must have a construction induction card (White Card). To obtain this card, students need to complete a one-day course at Holmesglen or another accredited training provider before starting the course. The cost of this program is between $150 and $200. <br> <br>Detailed consumables and equipment lists will be provided to students upon enrollment. Computers are available in tutorial classrooms. <br>- USB-connected headset if using class computers while the teacher is remote: $55 <br> <br>Recommended other items: <br>- Recommended book - George Wilkie: Building Your Own Home: $40 <br>- Suitable home computer capable of running Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Office365 is available for free. Microsoft Project will be available on the classroom computers. <br> <br>The total estimated cost for these additional items is $695.
