Entry Requirements

For those interested in taking this course, it's recommended that you are at least 18 years old and have finished year 12. Additionally, having a strong interest in the building and construction industry and possessing adequate literacy and numeracy skills is important.<p>Learners must have a minimum of three (3) years building and construction experience, details outlined below.<br>- All prospective learners will engage with an Education Manager prior to enrolment to participate in a Pre-Training Review (PTR). The PTR will screen the candidate’s suitability for an online course. <br>- All participants must have a minimum of 3 years related building and construction experience (within the past 5 years), including exposure to on-site activities. Construction experience can be defined as, but not limited to:<br>• Carpenter<br>• Plumber<br>• Electrician<br>• Estimator (Take-offs and Bill of Quantities Specialist)<br>• Planner/Scheduler (Construction)<br>• Contract Administrator<br>• Project Co-ordinator<br>• Engineer<br>• Architect/Draftsperson<br>• Building Inspector/Surveyor<br>• Construction Environmental Officer<br>• Tiler/Waterproofer<br>• Landscape Architect/Designer<br>• Construction Supervisor<p>If you are a mature learner, completing year 12 or its equivalent and having a passion for the building and construction industry are preferable.<br>It's important to realize that by completing this course, you may pursue job opportunities that involve outdoor, elevated, or underground work, often requiring physical effort.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.<p>Please note: Students are required to hold a <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/explore-courses/business-and-finance/work-health-and-safety/vocational-education/prepare-to-work-safely-in-the-construction-industry-white-card">Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)</a> (CPCCWHS1001A Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry) in order to take part in mandatory assessments or site-visits.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete a total of 27 units, which includes:<br>• 24 core units<br>• 3 elective units<br>Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on industry feedback and staff qualifications. If learners have already completed other eligible elective units, these will be counted towards program completion.<p><strong>Learning Delivery</strong><br>Learners must actively participate in timetabled remotely facilitated sessions. Structured sessions cover course content and include:<br>• Interactive discussions<br>• Q&A sessions<br>• Collaborative activities<p><strong>Practical Tasks</strong><br>Compulsory attendance is required for units involving practical tasks, such as:<br>• Inspections<br>• Land surveying<br>• Supervising contractors<p><strong>Assessment and Progress Monitoring</strong><br>• Assessments are conducted via the Brightspace platform<br>• Some assessments require on-campus compulsory attendance<br>• Submission of assessments is also through Brightspace<p><strong>Learning Resources</strong><br>Learners will have access to learning resources via Brightspace, including:<br>• Instructional videos<br>• Reading materials<br>• Interactive simulations<p>Teachers will also facilitate online discussions and organise forums to support learning.

Office365 is available for free. Microsoft Project will be available on the classroom computers.
