Overview

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is a nationally recognised course designed for qualified tradespeople and those completing trade qualifications who want to become registered builders in Victoria. This course supports VBA builder registration by delivering the three mandatory units required for domestic builder (limited) registration with the Victorian Building Authority. You’ll gain essential skills in contract administration, building permits and approval processes, and project scheduling and procurement, helping you fast-track your builder registration and advance your career in the building and construction industry.

Pathway to further studies

  • Students who have completed CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction, will have up to 13 units exempted for the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction.
  • Upon completion of the CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction, the graduates can have some exemption when enrolling in the Bachelor of Construction Management or the Bachelor of Building Surveying

You’ll start with the three mandatory VBA registration units, covering contract administration, building permits, and project scheduling. Learn from experienced trainers, with access to excellent facilities and strong support throughout your studies. This part-time, face-to-face course is structured around real building projects, helping you gain practical experience. You’ll learn how to manage residential and commercial construction projects, follow building codes, and lead teams on-site. After graduating, you can apply for roles such as site supervisor, project manager, or construction manager, or even start your own building business.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course, it is recommended that learners:<br>• are at least 18 years old <br>• Have completed at least Year 11<br>• Are currently enrolled in a trades qualification, or have previously completed one<br>• Are actively seeking to apply for builder registration<p>Learners are expected to have the following foundational skills:<br>• Learning skills – to evaluate the accuracy and reliability of technical information<br>• Communication skills – to clearly present technical and compliance information, including in written reports<p>Individuals considering this course should understand that employment opportunities resulting from its completion may involve outdoor work, working at heights, underground work, and physical labour.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Additional Course Cost

Activity Fee: $150 <br> <br>Expenses that may occur: <br> <br>When onsite excursions are scheduled, students will need to provide the following personal protective equipment: <br>- Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>- Safety pants <br>- Work shirt (waist-length jacket, if cold) <br>- Safety glasses <br>- Hat for sun protection <br>- Sunscreen (if exposed to sunlight) <br>- Safety gloves (if handling building materials) <br> <br>The estimated total cost of these items ranges between $200 and $250. <br> <br>It is recommended that students obtain a construction induction card (White Card) before starting the course. This requires completing a one-day course at Holmesglen or another accredited training provider, with costs ranging between $150 and $200. <br> <br>Detailed lists of consumables and equipment will be provided upon enrolment. Students have access to computers in tutorial classrooms. <br>- USB-connected headset (if using class computers while the teacher is remote): $55 <br> <br>Recommended additional items: <br>- Recommended book - "Building Your Own Home" by George Wilkie: $40 <br>- A suitable home computer capable of running Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required for homework. Office365 is free, and Microsoft Project will be available on the classroom computers. <br> <br>Total equals $695
