In this course, you'll explore hard materials and soft furnishing textiles while working on real client design briefs. You'll gain expertise in using colour, fabrics, design history, and industry-standard tools like CAD and Adobe software to bring your ideas to life.<p>Throughout the course, you'll develop essential skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and in-depth product knowledge. You'll learn how to propose colour schemes that work with existing lighting and interpret client needs. The course emphasises planning, organisation, and safety in a supportive environment. By the end, you'll have an impressive portfolio to showcase your work to potential employers and clients.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible for this course, learners must:<br>• Be at least 17 years of age<br>• Complete a Pre-Training Review (PTR) to assess suitability for the program<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, learners are also required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. These assessments assist in determining course suitability, verifying the training plan, and identifying any learning support needs.<p><strong>Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements</strong><br>Learners must demonstrate English language, literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2 on the BKSB test at the time of their Pre-Training Review.<p>Most units in this training package require the following ACSF levels or lower:<br>• Reading – Level 2<br>• Writing – Level 2<br>• Numeracy – Level 2
<strong>Literacy Requirements</strong><br>Learners are expected to:<br>• Analyse textual information to accurately interpret job specifications<br>• Use industry-specific terminology and appropriate formats to develop, document and amend workplace documentation<p><strong>Numeracy Requirements</strong><br>Learners are expected to:<br>• Interpret numerical data and apply mathematical calculations to produce quantity estimates according to design specifications<br>• Perform calculations relevant to decoration and design solutions<p><strong>Learning Support</strong><br>If a student is identified as needing additional support in any area of the course, they will be referred to the Learner Support Centre (LSC) for assistance.<br>Learners can also access LSC drop-in sessions held in the library for further guidance and support as needed.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete a total of 17 units, comprising 7 core units and 10 elective units.<p>Elective units have been selected by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry professionals and the expertise of our teaching staff.<p><strong>Delivery and Study Mode</strong><p>The full-time study program is delivered over 4 terms across 2 semesters. Each semester runs for 20 weeks with blended delivery.<br>Learners attend approximately 18 hours per week over 4 days.<p>Students complete around 50% of the program in each semester, beginning with foundation design skills in Semester 1 and progressing to advanced skills and complex briefs in Semester 2.
