Pathway to further studies

  • Apprentices who successfully complete this program, and the Apprenticeship requirements, are eligible to apply for an ARCtick Licence and work in industry as an Appliance Service Technician.
  • Learners may choose to undertake further Industry Training programs in field and/to apply for various licences associated with the trade, including Refrigerant Handling Licence*, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Occupational Licence*, and Electrical Occupation Licence*.
  • * Additional and/or other conditions may apply in some jurisdictions subject to regulations related to domestic refrigerating and air conditioning appliance work, and electrical work.

Studying the Certificate III in Appliance Service at Holmesglen

This comprehensive program emphasises practical, hands-on training in specially designed facilities that replicate real-world workshop environments. Students learn vital safety and communication protocols while gaining technical expertise in servicing and repairing a wide range of domestic and some commercial appliances.<p>Holmesglen's experienced teachers provide personalised support, guiding apprentices through the four-year program, which includes day-release training. Apprentices work full-time in the industry while attending on-campus sessions one day a week, complemented by online study. The first three years focus on skill development, while the fourth year is dedicated to on-the-job training, ensuring students are fully prepared for successful careers in the appliance service industry.

Entry Requirements

As a requirement for this program, Holmesglen requires learners to be engaged in a Appliance Service Apprenticeship. <br>In addition, learners must be at least 18 years of age when enrolling in the program.<p>Note: For specific units of competency within this program, apprentices are required to possess a TL000 - Trainee Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Licence. This license, granted by the ARC, enables apprentices to work on air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, as well as handle refrigerants during classroom-based training and/or assessments, under supervised conditions at their workplace. The supervisor must be the holder of a licence that entitles them to engage in work for which the licensee is being trained.
It is recommended that applicants have completed Year 11 or equivalent and have a minimum of Year 10 English and Mathematics.<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The apprenticeship program is a 4-year program. The program is offered as day release, where apprentices are employed full-time in industry and attend on-campus training for 1 day per week on an ongoing basis, and includes online study. The training is typically scheduled over approximately the first 3 years, and the final 4th year is spent fully on the job, with the trainer or assessor maintaining regular contact and support and, where required, attending off-the-job training.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

How to apply

Apprenticeship

Additional Course Cost

The required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) students will need to supply: <br>- Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>- Safety pants <br>- Safety glasses <br>- work shirt (waist length jacket if cold) <br> Total costs for PPE is approximately $200-$250 (depending on brands)
