Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 16 years of age.<p>As this is an apprenticeship, you must have a training agreement with a registered employer from a relevant industry.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training, applicants are required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training review. These will assist with determining suitability to the course, verify the training plan and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

The program is structured over 21 hours of training per week across a total of 23 block training sessions over three years.<p>In Year One, focus is on foundational core units, which emphasise navigating safety requirements and communication within the industry, inspecting and assessing flooring sites for moisture and damage to surfaces.<p>In Year Two, the course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired during the first year, with a focus on measuring, costing and planning for jobs, followed by practical activities such as installing hard underlay and resilient sheet to walls.<p>In Year Three, focus is on laying vinyl in more complex flooring installations, gaining more specialised skills and knowledge required to prepare, cut, weld, lay out and fasten vinyl to floor coverings and overcome problematic issues with vinyl installations.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

How to apply

Apprenticeship

Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities. The personal protective equipment and course materials students will be required to supply are: <br>Safety boots (steel capped, ankle height) <br>Work pants and shirt <br>Safety glasses <br>Safety gloves (when handling building materials) <br>Dust respirator to P2/P3 standard <br>Fold-out ruler Notebook, HB Pencil, blue or black pen, eraser <br>BYO Device-Laptop $400 <br>The total cost of these items is between $650 - $750 <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.
